Been thinking recently about the idea of open source graphic design. It is not my exclusive idea; just an inevitable idea that many people will have. It also works well with my position than no project is ever finished, even a book or the like cannot be finished [just at a conclusion.] I think it would be a pretty cool thing to do open source graphic design, and I will release some of my work under a Creative Commons licence in the future.
However how does one go about releasing this work?
There is no place for this. One could upload a indesign package to a mediafire or similar, or even create a torrent. However this would not really be enough. If open source graphic design were to work, it would need a place like github to act as a hub for projects. While I could hardly create a github myself I could make a start at this kind of project. And as should be inherent in the project other people should be able to develop the platform as well as use it. Possibly allowing me in time to leave any control or hosting of it. That would be cool.
So there question is can I / should I make this as one of my projects?
Probably…

This is the version of the poster side I worked on that ale sent out as the final version. It is slightly sufferer from mine but basically the same and after all it was a collaboration. Not sure when it gets printed..?

Not blogged this yet but Carla did already [proving her document effiency] This is a snap of a webapp I built using cakePHP to get a little bit to grips with it. Pretty simple technologically but really useful. It is a user protected, multi user, shopping list. It it designed to fit on our iphone screens and load quick as possible but it is also available on any internet connection [the mac]. I recently added a click to put in basket [strickthru and greyed out] as a way of keeping that. So far so good. Next feature will probably include one button recipie additions, things like that.

I think that we’ve finally finished the outcome of the hacketetura workshop. Here is a mock up lying on my floor of the side I didn’t the most for. Finalizing the project distantly after the three days ran out has been quite strange. It is not an easy thing to do a inter-national collaboration between strangers.

So I’m still not really using this blog. I am only using it for the generative record cover project. I am up to other stuff but am yet to document it on here:
- I did a 3 day workshop with two guys from Hackitectura that was close to my interest in reimaginging education [the workshop was about university]
- I’ve joined James, Carla & Arriane on the FASHON womens ware degree show.
- Struggling continuing building my vote platform
- Starting a rambling book of my ideas for uni and a critique of the CSM institution
- Taking photos for the photography project.
- Making more trax as ever [and really trying to finish some too]
- & of course the colab book with Carla about [roughly] design inside constraint systems
So hopefully I’ll put up stuff about that soon. [pfff {but I do hope so (but I'm not sure it will happen)}] lol

This is a prototype number one for the auto record cover. This is for a double A side record that I have cut as a dubplate. The two tracks have been analysed using the system previously shown, and the ID3 tags read to output the meta. Then I stuck the two images together in photoshop. It would be nice if I didn’t have to do that. I need to consider what this generator is for: single trax, title trax of an EP, all trax on an EP, albums, etc. When I started this project I was thinking of the 12″ dance records I buy [which actually mostly don't have printed sleaves] These records are normally one trak per side. I was also thinking about dubplates which almost always have only 1 trak per side. Anyhow…

My next movements are that I need to get colour working more for the project. On this version the colour is modulated by the amplification in the part of the spectrum, but the base colours are pure blue and red. I want to find two base colours in some way from the trak as it will make the images more distincly individual. I also have been thinking of using opacity to give the image more depth.

I joined the womensware project the other day and its pretty interesting. Discovering the charring X building is quite amazing. It has a totally different vibe to our place and an amazing cafe. There are a lot of things about the place that seems better than ours. However they do seem to have even less space which considering kings X is even smaller seems pretty terrible.
anyhow we have started to plan the space and draw up plans for how to re-appropriate the furniture available into display items.
these are the kind of inspiration images:

& the sketchs r a bit like this:
